چکیده

A great number of researches on network flow characteristics show a large proportion of the network flows are single-packet flows. However, almost all existing flow termination strategies have no optimization for singlepacket flows, so the efficiency of flow-aggregation is lower. Based on in-depth study of flow characteristics and TCP protocol specifications, we find the packet status, packet arrival interval and SYN packet size can identify singlepacket flows accurately, and then propose a flowaggregation accelerating strategy for TCP traffic that aims to quickly identify single-packet flows. We build efficiency model and accuracy model to compare our strategy performance with others and make a lot of experiments on the traces collected from a main channel in the CERNET during the latest five years. The results prove our strategy can greatly improve the efficiency of flow-aggregation at the cost of very little loss of accuracy.

TCP and UDP performance for Internet over optical packet - switched networks q

A strong candidate for the future Internet core is optical packet-switched (OPS) network. In this paper, we study the impact of mechanisms as employed in OPS networks on the performance of upper layer Internet protocols represented by TCP and UDP. The mechanisms we investigate are packet aggregation, deflection routing, and ingress buffering. We show that packet aggregation in general improves ...

Car pooling on the Net: Performance and Implications

Small packets dominate Internet traffic patterns today. The overhead due to queuing, processing, routing, differential treatment, and delivery is the same irrespective of the size of the packet. Hence, small packets impose a relatively higher overhead on the network. The domination of small packet traffic is expected to get only worse with the ever increasing web applications and the introducti...

Improving TCP Performance in Wireless Multi-hop Networks Design of Efficient Forwarding and Packet Processing Techniques

Due to the high availability of cheap hardware, wireless multi-hop networks and in particular Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are becoming popular in more and more contexts. For instance, IEEE 802.11 based WMNs have already started to be deployed as means to provide Internet access to rural areas in the developing world. To lower the cost and increase the coverage in such deployments, the wired n...

Fairness Measurements about TCP Flows in DS Networks: Comparison of Per-flow and Aggregate Marking Schemes

Traffic marking is an essential component in any Differentiated Services (DS) architecture. Traffic marking can be done with respect to a single flow or a flow aggregate. In a DS network, traffic marking is typically performed at aggregate levels, rather than on the level of individual flows. The use of aggregation raises a number of concerns, such as fairness concern. When we deal with aggrega...

TCP over Load-Reactive Links

Emerging network technologies offer new design choices for performing traffic engineering and management, while introducing challenges for existing protocol control mechanisms. There is a tension between new hop-by-hop capabilities and existing end-to-end mechanisms. In this paper we examine one such capability, the Load-Reactive Link (LRL), which has capacity that can be automatically varied i...
